We are just days away from the fourth annual Great Grill Off here on the CCHO campus!

After giving you a taste of some of the burgers that will be available on the afternoon of June 12th, it’s time to round out the menu with a look at our final four burgers. We’ve also laid out the menu items here.

The Big Woo

Ingredients: Lettuce, tomato, Swiss cheese, house-made spicy dill pickles, fried (breaded) onion strings, butter and secret sauce (thousand island dressing, Russian dressing, mild hot sauce)

Granny Givand

Ingredients: BBQ sauce, caramel, Granny Smith apples and bacon

Bowtie Bruiser

Ingredients: Pulled pork, avocado, slaw and Bearded Butcher seasoning

Big Kahuna Burger

Ingredients: Soy sauce, ginger, garlic, Teriyaki sauce, bacon, Swiss cheese, pineapple, red onion and mayo

The 2016 Great Grill Off will be held on the beautiful 165-acre campus of Christian Children’s Home of Ohio:

The CCHO campus is located about eight miles north of downtown Wooster and roughly eight miles south of the intersection of I-71 and SR 83 in Burbank. You will find us 1 mile west of SR 83 on Armstrong Road.

RT 83 DETOUR

SR 83 is currently CLOSED at Smithville Western Road. If you are coming from the south, follow the detour signs to SR 3, and then turn left (west) at E. Hutton Road. About 2.5 miles later, Hutton will dead end into SR 83. Turn right (north), and Armstrong Road will be on your left 1.5 miles down the road.

When traveling from the north, SR 83 is open to Armstrong Road so please IGNORE the detour signs.

We are just over a week away from the fourth annual Great Grill Off here on the CCHO campus, and we thought it was about time to give you a glimpse of some of the deliciousness that awaits when you arrive on the afternoon of June 12th. We’ve already laid out the menu items here, but today we’re ready to unveil some of the burgers that you’ll get to choose from this year!

Branded Buckeye Burger

Ingredients: Brown sugar, black pepper, garlic, red pepper, cheese, mango salsa, mustard, ketchup and mayo

Summer Garden Burger

Ingredients: Feta cheese, balsamic, carmelized onions, strawberry, walnut and spinach

Ha-Italian Burger

Ingredients: Salt and pepper, teriyaki sauce, capicolla ham, provolone cheese and grilled pineapple

Float Your Goat Grilled

Ingredients: Seasoning, bacon, bbq, feta cheese and grilled onions

All-American Build Your Own Burger Grilled

Ingredients to choose from: Ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, A-1 sauce, mayo, lettuce, tomato, dill pickle slices, mushrooms and American cheese

If these don’t get your mouth watering and stomach growling, you may want to have someone nearby check for your pulse! More burger details to come next week, so stay tuned.

When we began planning for the 2016 Great Grill Off this spring and working through our vision for the event, Psalm 34:8 came to mind. “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”

Our prayer for June 12 is that those who step onto the CCHO Campus will feel welcomed and taste the overwhelming sense of peace many here have tasted before. As guests visit the campus, we often hear phrases like, “It just seems so peaceful here” or  “There’s just something different about this place”. We believe that’s no accident but rather a result of one of God’s promises.

In Philippians 4:6-9 God’s word instructs, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” CCHO and the kids we serve have been lifted up in prayer for decades. Our dedicated staff and volunteers have sensed these prayers on a daily basis. They have been sustaining and life-giving. Our Encompass Centers throughout NE Ohio have also been a place where children and families have found Christ-centered inner peace. Truly – God’s love knows no boundaries!

So… on June 12 come TASTE & SEE. Sure – you’ll taste the great burgers and side dishes, enjoy ice cream, snow cones, and popcorn. But beyond the great meal and fun times we hope you’ll get a sense of how special this mission really is, meet some of our leaders, and be a blessing to our children on campus.

We know what you’re thinking: “I love a good burger but my kids? Not so much.” Don’t let that stop you from bringing your whole family to the 2016 Great Grill Off!

For kids who aren’t interested in the Burger Contest, they can enjoy an all-beef frankfurter with some of their favorite fixin’s instead! And round out your meal with classic picnic sides, chips, pop or water, and a bowl of ice cream for dessert. Because all kids love ice cream, even those who don’t like burgers!

But the Grill Off isn’t just about food! Take your kids for a miniature horse ride or tour the CCHO campus aboard a relaxing hayride. There will be no shortage of games and crafts that afternoon, and get up close and personal with the horses in the Poplar Ridge Stables Open House.

And…let’s not forget…INFLATABLES!!

So while you may be looking forward to carefully selecting your winner in the Burger Contest, your kids should be just as excited about all the other things that will be happening at the Christian Children’s Home of Ohio’s 2016 Great Grill Off. We can’t wait to see you here!

Burger teams are being formed. Bounce houses, horse rides, and all sorts of games and crafts have been lined up. The menu is nearly set. And auction items are rolling in every day.

The 2016 Great Grill Off is just around the corner, and we can’t wait for you and your family to see everything we have planned for this fantastic event!

While you can expect all the food and memorable activities that have made the Great Grill Off so much fun the last three years, we are adding another twist this summer with the introduction of the first ever Great Grill Off Auction. In the coming weeks, we will share some of the unbelievable items that so many generous donors have provided for auction, including the 2015 Chevrolet Spark, provided by Bill Harris Auto in Ashland, and we will also tell you a bit more about our fantastic event sponsors and what all you will experience this year.
